When I first moved into my apartment I intended to paint over the walls. They are green except for this one completely arbitrarily pink painted corner. I am not a huge fan of pink walls but I actually like the arbitrarily painted pink corner now. It brightens up the room without having to live in entirely pink room. The downside is that paintings, or at least my paintings, look terrible against pink background.

In class project making three abstract paintings using different colour harmonies.....
Tetrad Blue-Violet, Red-Orange, Yellow-Green
Split Complementary-Violet, Yellow-Orange, Yellow-Green
The yellow green curtain in the background gets made fun of by comedians all the time. Ugh. The owner is colourblind.....
This one is a tetrad combo using Blue, Green, Red and Orange. This one appeals to me the most but it may be less the colours and more just the pattern that they are laid out on the page.

Maybe this would be less gross if there was less orange? It makes me think of the seventies.

Maybe it's memorable though. I'm not sure. I think for a comedy club it's okay but I dunno, I wouldn't pick that as a colour scheme for any other business.
Anwyay back to class projects...

I played around in photoshop with the hue in this picture just to show different kind of colour schemes. The top photo is the original...maybe that's obvious....
I noticed that once I changed it to the colours in the last one that it immediately made me think of coca-cola. The red brick with the white kind of swirly lettering is what does it; even though it doesn't look like the actual coca-cola lettering. Anyway, pretty crazy how powerful of a logo that is that I see red with white curved lines and automatically think of coca-cola.

Paula Rego is one of my favourite artists. She is so good at colour. It actually makes me feel a strange kind of colour lust to look at these.

I like this picture that I took of the sproing monkey on Ryan's dashboard because of the way the monkey stands out. I altered the picture to show the role that focus and colour to make it stand out.
The picture doesn't really work in black and white unless you really up the contrast.

It is kind of interesting to see these two pictures together as they are sort of colour reversals.

I bought some crayons for the whole colour experimenting. I was expecting that they would be sort organized in the box by hue but they were not. They are not put in the box randomly though. I was thinking about it, maybe it is supposed to be like more of a delight to have them all assorted.
Anyway I was just playing around with them some and my camera. The first row is pretty much a random assortment of colour and the second one was just after I made a few switches to try and make it more interesting.
these are just extras

I notice that I really like a sort of cool violet/indigo when it is paired with orange. I take many photographs with these sort of colour scheme but I can't really think of any paintings that I have painted. I think I should soon try to. I don't know why I don't think of that. I suppose I usually have no plan.
Gauguin often pairs these colours and it always seems very beautiful. Maybe it something to do with a warm colour and an evening sky colour.
